I've heard of rare problems with installed software that needs to be
reinstalled. Mainly it goes pretty smoothly.

Forget it and just leave the machine to rust. Nobody uses win2000 these
days.

if that w2k pro system
is not at sp4,
leaving it as is
is not a good idea.

sp4 install is easy.

name: W2KSP4_EN.exe (135meg)

info and download:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1001AAF1-749F-
49F4-8010-297BD6CA33A0&displaylang=en

then there's a roll-up to load after sp4 is installed.

name: Windows2000-KB891861-v2-x86-ENU.exe (32meg)

Thanks very much--I installed SP4 without a problem--As per your advice,
it was extremely easy except that it still required that the Roll-over
update be installed before it would run the new AVG 8.0
Thank you again for the much -valued assistance,Richard
