Post by Martin RosenfeldIn Win2K is there an easy way to make an Emergency Startup Disk? I found
a complicated way to make on involving copying files from different places.

Why do you need such a disk? If it's to change passwords then get one
of the Linux disks which allow access.
If you are trying to change the startup logo screen then make sure you
keep a copy of the original NTOSKRNL.EXE where you can copy or rename
it back to that name. With SP4 M$ decided they wouldn't allow the
/KERNEL switch to operate as originally designed and any attempt to
rename the NTOSKRNL.EXE file with an altered logo bmp on place is
defeated by their security procedures. When I was doing this I found
that there were at least six copies of NTOSKRL.EXE scattered all over
the place and if you altered the original it merely ignored it and put
the original back into place. I defeated it by booting into Win98 and
removing all those copies and then replacing the original with my
doctored copy. 2000 then booted flawlessly, if a tad slowly.
